I work with clients of all ages. For minor clients, caregiver involvement is expected, especially with the younger populations that I serve.
I tailor my treatment approach to the individual needs of the client.
Talk therapy: Methods are used that are based in psychodynamic, trauma, attachment, somatic and forgiveness theory. Cognitive behavioral strategies and mindfulness activities are also incorporated in the work. (All ages)
Sandtray Therapy: Using a sandtray and miniature items, clients create scenes to process through difficulties in their life including grief, trauma, relationship patterns, self-worth, etc. This method uses less verbal processing while still allowing powerful shifts to occur. (Ages 3-adulthood)
Play Therapy: Play is incorporated in most work with children. Often, directive methods are used (encouraging a child to play about a certain topic) but non-directive play is also used at times to help the child feel safe, secure and to reduce anxiety in session. (All children)
I have completed extensive training in the following evidence-based practices:
Somatic Experiencing®: Used to work through past trauma/other stress responses and restore balance in the body and nervous system. Increases awareness of the body’s response to both stressful and joyful stimuli. I have completed over 200 training hours and have received a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) Certificate. (All ages)
Internal Family Systems (IFS): We are all made up of many parts of ourselves including a core Self. These parts all have a good intention but sometimes are overly protective or are wounded, which creates functioning difficulties. I am IFS informed and am still learning this modality with about 30 hours of training completed. (All ages)
Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP): Helps children heal from abuse, neglect or other trauma and improves the attachment relationship between the child and the caregiver. This treatment modality can be appropriate for children who have not experienced trauma as well. (Ages 0-7)
Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT): Therapy for children and adolescents who have experienced abuse, neglect or other trauma. (Ages 7-18)
